Before concluding an insurance contract with a company, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with what documents are needed for compulsory motor liability insurance. Most motorists believe that the old insurance will be enough to take out a policy. But this is not enough, because... You will need a whole package of documents. A conscientious driver, as a rule, has everything with him, so collecting it will be quick and easy.
To save time and effort, it is useful for a motorist to know which original documents should be provided to the insurer to issue a policy.
Why insure a private home
A private building is always more exposed to natural phenomena than an apartment.
In addition, intruders can break into it. Country houses need insurance most of all, since the owners do not visit them very often. In addition to thieves who can break into a private home, even if you think the locks are the most secure, there are other factors that can cause damage to property: fires, floods, falling trees, and so on. In some cases, people have to spend huge amounts of money to restore their homes. Taking out insurance helps avoid this. Compared to the possible costs, the price of insurance is extremely low. At the same time, it allows you to gain confidence that your problems will be solved, and you will not have to look for money for it.
Owners of private houses can conclude an insurance contract:
- on the house as a whole;
- on supporting structures;
- on the front part of the building;
- to the inside of the building;
- for plumbing or wiring;
- for equipment;
- for valuables stored in the house.
Insurance is especially recommended for owners whose home is located in flooded areas. Cases where spring floods cause significant damage to large buildings are common.
It is also useful to insure a wooden house, since such buildings easily catch fire. But you need to read that for insurers, arson and fire are different concepts.
Thus, buying a strass policy is much more intelligent and profitable than huge expenses for the restoration of housing in the future.

How many times can you insure?
To prevent cases of fraud, as well as artificially increasing the cost of compensation for damage, all material assets are subject to insurance, but a contract can only be concluded once. A citizen has the right to independently choose an insurance company and terms of cooperation, but in this case, in the event of an insured event, payments cannot be received more than the actual amount of the property valuation. This point is spelled out in the law of the Russian Federation and its violation carries administrative liability.
An exception to the rules is those cases where the policyholder has entered into an agreement with several companies for an amount not exceeding the actual valuation of the property. Such situations are not so rare; the amount of payment is assessed in each case separately. When drawing up an insurance contract, the client is required by law to provide all available information about previously issued insurance for this property, which has not yet expired.

The policyholder himself can choose the risks from which the insurance policy will protect. The price of insurance and the payment due upon the occurrence of an insured event will depend on this. The most popular risks in real estate insurance are as follows:
- Burglary and theft. This is a fairly common problem, and the most reliable locks do not always provide sufficient protection - attackers know how to open any system. This risk is especially relevant in the case of dachas, where the owners live only in the summer, and the rest of the time they are left unattended.
- Natural and natural disasters: flood, tsunami, hurricanes, lightning and so on. Here it is important to consider which risks are most relevant to your home, and be sure to include them in the policy, otherwise payments will not be due.
- Fires. One of the most common risks. Fire insurance is especially important for wooden structures.
- Fertile soil insurance. This risk is relevant for agricultural regions. Flooding often leads to the fact that the fertile layer is washed away, and then compensation will be very appropriate.
The service can apply to the entire property or to certain independent elements.
When choosing a risk package, it is important to indicate in the contract those factors that are most likely for your private real estate.
Pet insurance
Pet insurance is provided in case of their loss or death due to the occurrence of one of the insured events:
- heat or sunstroke, explosion, fire, electric current, fire;
- natural disaster (hail, rain, frost, ice, flood, hurricane, etc.);
- attacks by stray dogs, strangulation, freezing, poisoning, etc.;
- illness;
- theft or other illegal actions of third parties.
The following types of animals are accepted for insurance:
- goats, sheep, cattle;
- rabbits (other fur-bearing animals), pigs;
- bee families (in hives);
- camels, horses, mules, donkeys, deer;
- Domestic bird;
- cats and dogs;
- service dogs;
- pets of veterinary clinics, cynological organizations, nurseries.
A pet insurance contract can be concluded for a period of one to three years.
What affects the cost of insurance
The price of insuring a private home in most insurance companies is 0.3-1% of the value of the property itself. For example, if a house was valued at 500,000 rubles, insuring it will cost no more than 5,000 rubles per year.
There are some tricks that will help you save money when purchasing insurance:
- Study the list of risks in the policy. By eliminating some of them, you can reduce the cost of insurance. For example, if there are no bodies of water at the location of the house, there is no point in insuring it against flooding, and if you do not store any valuables at your dacha, you may not insure it against theft.
- Choose really important insurance objects: load-bearing walls, expensive property, and so on. An old barn and a dilapidated gazebo, even if they are lost in the event of an insured event, will not become a serious loss for you.
- You can use a franchise. The insurance contract provides for the possibility of determining the amount that is not subject to compensation. For example, the established franchise amount is 20,000 rubles, and the amount of damage is 50,000 rubles. In this case, the compensation will be 30 thousand rubles out of 50. At the same time, the deductible significantly reduces the price of the policy.
- When insuring a dacha, it makes sense to take out insurance only for the winter, because during the rest of the time the owners can look after it.
When insuring property, you cannot underestimate the real price of the property. Otherwise, you may receive a payment that is not enough to recover your losses.
In addition to these factors, the amount of the insurance premium will depend on the following parameters:
- level of building wear;
- quality of infrastructure;
- building material (it is more expensive to insure a house made of wood than a house made of stone);
- availability of security systems and video surveillance;
- age of construction;
- the price of the improvements made.
Documents required for an insurance policy
Taking out MTPL insurance is a serious and responsible task. According to Article 15, paragraph 3 of Law No. 40-FZ, the driver must have with him the following list of documents for car insurance:
- Documents for the car. They contain detailed information about your car necessary to complete your policy. These include a passport issued for the vehicle and a certificate confirming its registration.
- An equally important piece of paper required to obtain insurance is the driver’s identification card. This can be any document belonging to this category. Usually its role is played by a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation.
- Owners of vehicles whose age from the date of assembly has reached or exceeded three years must present a diagnostic card issued for the insured vehicle. Owners of new cars do not have to fulfill this point, however, they can undergo maintenance at their own request and include a diagnostic card in the list of documents presented when applying for compulsory motor liability insurance.
- When applying for closed insurance, do not forget to take with you the driver’s licenses of all persons authorized to drive the car. For closed insurance, their number should not be more than 4 people. Otherwise, you will have to take out open insurance, and then the licenses of other possible drivers are not required for registration. You can present photocopies of your driver's license.
- And of course, an application for concluding an insurance contract for your vehicle.
These are not all the necessary documents to obtain compulsory motor liability insurance.
Additional documents for MTPL
In addition to the above mandatory documents, when concluding an MTPL policy, a motorist sometimes has to provide additional ones. For example, you already had a policy with another insurance organization. In this case, the employee can take into account your coefficient specified in the previous contract to calculate the new cost. The calculation of the MTPL premium will depend on this document. Thus, in the absence of paid losses, the price decreases, and in the presence of them, it increases.
Some insurance companies also require you to provide them with a certificate from a previous insurance organization about break-even driving. But the car owner does not always have to do this. Some organizations independently submit a request to obtain the information they require.
If the insured vehicle does not belong to the driver, then in order to issue a policy, you must present a general power of attorney to the employees of the insurance company. In this case, the text must contain a note stating that the owner of the car trusts not only the driving of the car, but also the registration of insurance. All these points must be prescribed in the power of attorney.
List of documents for legal entities
So, for individuals you will need the following list:
- Technical certificate;
- Certificate of registration or PTS.
Legal entities, in addition to the above, will need to present to the employee of the insurance company a power of attorney in their name, which confirms the right to represent the interests of the organization and the TIN of the enterprise. To obtain a power of attorney to represent the interests of the company, the driver of the vehicle will need to contact the director of the organization or his deputy. All documentation must be certified by the signatures of the persons who issued it and the corresponding seals.
In addition to the above documents, you will also need to bring a statement of agreement. It is drawn up in the prescribed form. You can fill it out at home. But experts recommend drawing it up directly in the company. It should be noted that many insurance organizations draw up a contract without an application.
Step-by-step insurance process
To insure a private home, you need to use the following scheme:
- Choose a suitable insurer.
- Prepare documents. Their list can be found on the insurance company’s website or by contacting its employees by phone.
- Make a request. This can be done at the insurer’s office, or remotely, via the website or by phone.
- Inspect the facility. You need to agree with a company employee who will come to the site to inspect the house, calculate the price of insurance, premiums, and so on. It is possible to insure a house without an inspection, but the cost of the service in this case increases. In addition, when an insured event occurs, doubts may arise as to whether the damage actually appeared after the event, or whether it existed before.
- To sign an agreement. It is important to carefully study the contract first. First of all, check the list of risks and the results of the inspection of the structure by a specialist.
- Pay the insurance premium and buy a policy. It should be taken into account that sometimes the policy begins not from the moment the insurance is taken out, but, for example, from the beginning of next week.
There is nothing complicated in taking out insurance for a private home, but it is important to adhere to all the rules of the procedure.
Voluntary and compulsory insurance
The rules for insurance of property of individuals imply voluntary and compulsory insurance. Existing legal relationships are regulated by the Law of the Russian Federation “On Insurance”. This allows any person to independently decide what property will be insured, choose a partner company, and a specific insured event from the list of possible developments of events. The objects of insurance are any material assets that are the personal property of the policyholder.
As for compulsory property insurance, this clause is a necessary condition for the purchase of mortgaged real estate, to protect the rights of the borrower in the event of damage or any other damage to the property against which the loan was taken, and other financial relationships have been formalized.
The bank has the right to refuse the borrower to receive funds, or change interest rates for refusal to insure property.
The best companies for private home insurance
It is important not to make a mistake when choosing an insurer. There are more and more insurance companies operating. It is best to entrust your property to a trusted organization that has been on the market for several years and has earned a good reputation. The following insurance companies are considered the most popular:
- Ingosstrakh. The organization has more than seventy years of experience in the insurance industry and a large number of representative offices both in the Russian Federation and in other countries. Several packages are offered to property owners. The “Platinum” package is designed to insure expensive buildings, while the “Express” package is a more budget option. The Freedom package is used if the cost of the object does not exceed 6 million rubles.
- Rosgosstrakh. The company is one of the leaders in the market and offers various insurance programs. You can apply for insurance online through the organization’s website. A strass policy can be obtained both at the insurer’s office and through home delivery.
- Alpha insurance. It has been operating in the market for more than 20 years and has more than 300 branches. You can insure almost any property with this company. It could be a country house, a dacha, a mansion, an unfinished building, and so on.
- Ingvar. The insurer has been operating since 1993 and offers various lines of insurance. The Phoenix House program is worthy of attention, including various risks and making it possible to insure individual elements and structures.
- Insone. The agency offers clients the fastest and simplest possible process for obtaining insurance. You can do without a preliminary expert assessment of the property. The client can choose the insurance risks himself. The number of insurance programs is quite large, and their cost is quite affordable.
How are payments made when an insured event occurs?
If an insured event occurs, you need to contact the insurance company to receive payment. It is important not to delay this, since insurers often set deadlines within which the situation must be resolved. In addition, in the future it will be more difficult to identify the causes of the event and its scale. It is recommended to use the help of appropriate services to record the damage and control the situation. These could be municipal structures, the police, the municipality, and so on. These services constitute an incident report that will need to be presented to the insurer.
Then you need to submit a claim to the insurance company. After reviewing it, the insurance agent visits the scene of the incident and assesses the amount of losses. Most often, an independent appraiser also takes part in this. The result of his work is the determination of replacement cost.
At this stage, it may become clear that the reason is not included in the list of risks under the contract. In this case, the policyholder will be denied compensation. The same applies to situations where the assessment revealed the owner’s intentional motives or simply his careless attitude. The result of the appeal will be to receive a payment in an amount that will be sufficient to restore the previous characteristics of the house, purchase other property to replace the lost one, and so on.
Please note that when using a deductible, the payment is reduced by its amount, and the policyholder will compensate for the difference himself.
The insurance company indemnifies only those losses that were caused to the insured property. For example, if a house stands on a plot, and you insured the building itself, but not the plot, and the walls of the building and the soil were damaged during a flood, the insurer will only compensate for the restoration of the building. The remaining costs will be borne by the owner.
