Every month we make at least one or two payments: for an apartment, for electricity, for major home repairs, for a telephone, for the Internet, kindergarten, school... And there are also receipts for payment of state fees, fines, loans, etc. Let's be honest: storing them in one place for 2-3 years, as the rules dictate, is absolutely unrealistic. But losing a payment receipt is as easy as shelling pears.
In some cases - if the payment was correctly processed and credited to the recipient's account - a receipt is not required. But in everyone’s life there have been unpleasant moments when money has been paid, but the receipt has been lost. So, how to restore a receipt for payment of services?
Method No. 1. In the archive of card transactions
This method is the simplest, fastest and most accessible, but is only suitable for those transactions that you made cashless through self-service devices - payment terminals and ATMs. The steps are as follows: in the device, go to your personal account and check the transaction history. We find the required payment and print the receipt. The only drawback of this method is that receipts at any terminals and ATMs fade too quickly. This is the price to pay for printing speed in any weather.
Why does this happen
Sometimes it turns out that the rent payment receipt does not reach the owner of the premises. If such situations arise, you should contact the management company and request the required information.
If due to untimely delivery of the payment to the addressee there is a delay, the owner of the premises must independently take care of proving what happened due to the fault of the utility workers.
If the owner of the apartment does not have a payment for rent due to its loss, then the document can be restored easily and quickly by contacting your management company. In addition, information on the amount of rent arrears can be obtained from some large banks. But it’s still better to avoid losing your payment card, because in some situations it’s unlikely to be restored.
Method number 3. Reserve check at the bank
This is the surest way, but far from the easiest. Let's start with the fact that you still need to come to the bank. All transactions - non-cash, cash, in terminals or through a cash desk - are processed by the bank's processing. Any operator has access to an archive of transactions - the so-called daily or daily registers (a set of transactions for the day). You are required to indicate as accurately as possible the date, time, amount, recipient of the payment, as well as your data: full name, series and passport number. If the operation was carried out through an ATM or terminal, you will need to provide the device number (this information is located on the front side of the machine). The success of the search depends on the completeness of the data: it is possible that at the very minute you paid, another hundred or two clients made exactly the same payment. The operator enters your data (the so-called “variables”), filters transactions and prints out the lost receipt. If necessary, the check is stamped, although this is not required.
How to recover a lost receipt
- - Passport;
- — information about the payment;
- — application form;
- — information about the protocol (the person who compiled it, the essence of the offense, place, time of incident).
As a rule, many motorists had to draw up a report for speeding and other administrative offenses. The consequence is the imposition of a fine, which is paid within a certain time frame. If you paid money and the receipt was lost or damaged, contact the bank where the payment was made.
Make a statement. In it, write down your request for the receipt to be restored. Enter your personal information. Indicate the exact date of payment, if known. If you don't remember the date, write down the approximate time period when you paid the fine.
Register the application with the bank. Be sure to duplicate the document in two copies, hand one of them to the bank employee, and keep the second statement with you so that in the future you can prove your rights if the matter comes to trial.
If you lose or damage your vehicle inspection payment receipt, contact the tax authority at your place of registration. Submit an application addressed to the head of the Federal Tax Service for the region where you live. Paid receipts are usually stored in a warehouse. The tax officer may look for the payment document himself or ask you to find a receipt.
Knowing the exact date will make it easier for you to find the receipt. You will be given a copy of the payment document from the tax office. It will be certified with a seal, the signature of an employee of the Federal Tax Service and the inscription “Copy is correct.”
If you lose an unpaid receipt, contact the traffic police. Tell the employee the date the protocol was drawn up, the personal information of the person who wrote the document, the place and time of the incident. Based on this information, you will be issued a new receipt, according to which you can pay the fine. Instead of a payment document, you have the right to submit a receipt if you made a payment through the terminal, or a notification if you paid the fine via online transfer.

Method number 4. Archival data analysis
The hardest and longest way. Let's say there was a payment, but the operator cannot find it, just as the recipient of the payment cannot find it. Such cases are not uncommon - approximately 0.1-0.2% of the total number of operations. You fill out an application to search for payment (you can use the online reception, but it’s better at a bank branch), the bank conducts an investigation. The payment will be found in the vast majority of cases, but the only inconvenience is the extreme length of the search. In particularly severe cases, processing the request may take a month or more.
When paying via cash register
When a payment was made in cash to a bank branch, and the client needs to restore the payment receipt, he should contact any structural unit of Sberbank. The operation of document recovery is a non-standard procedure, so there is no point in standing in line with an operational employee; you need to look for a consultant.
All operations in the bank office are carried out using the client’s passport; if a person is looking for a payment made by a third party, he will be denied the service.
In addition to your passport, you will need to write an application; the bank has a special form, but employees may not know about it because they rarely encounter such transactions. In this case, the application is written in free form addressed to the head of the Territorial Bank.
The document must indicate:
- surname, name, patronymic of the applicant;
- passport details;
- place of permanent registration;
- date and approximate time of payment;
- location of the operation;
- recipient of funds;
- transaction amount.
Next, you should indicate the details of the payment for which the funds were transferred. If there is a document on which the transfer was made, its details should be indicated. When describing the transaction, it is necessary to take into account that an error in the assignment could have been made by a bank employee, so the payment was not credited. For example, to pay off a traffic police fine, you need to indicate the number of the resolution, to pay taxes - the corresponding KBK, to transfer for housing and communal services - a personal account. Any inaccuracy in the order of the numbers will result in the money paid by the client not being considered a correctly made payment. In this case, the application for search should indicate: “The funds must be transferred to pay the fine under Resolution No.... or the tax on the KBK..., to pay for utilities to the personal account..., but I make a mistake in the data when performing the transaction.”
The application should be completed in two copies, one will remain with the employees of the credit institution, the second, signed by the employee, will be given to the client.
The same algorithm of actions should be used if the payment was made in cash through a self-service device. The location of the transaction should indicate the ATM number, which is written on its front side. If it is not possible to find out the device number, the application should describe its location in detail.
Disadvantages of methods
There are two major disadvantages to recovering a check yourself. Firstly, both in online banking and in the terminal, clients are faced with limited data: there is a payment date, amount and recipient, but the payer is not necessarily indicated, much less his personal data. Meanwhile, this is precisely what can become a refusal to provide a service: they say, prove that you paid, and not your friend, a year ago. Secondly, purely psychologically, a receipt printed on a printer on plain paper is inferior to a receipt made on a receipt tape. Although in both cases the value of the documents is the same. The disadvantage of restoring a check with the help of a bank employee is also obvious: they may refuse you, citing any pretext, or they may not find the payment. But still, with checks restored as a result of personal visits, problems, as a rule, are much less.
What to do if there are no rent payments
There is no need to be upset if the receipt for payment for housing and communal services was lost/stolen/not delivered. After all, in most cases this problem can be solved quite quickly.
The list of documents for rent subsidies must be prepared in advance in order to submit the entire package for consideration by the relevant services at once.
You can learn about all the ways to check rent arrears from the article at this link.
Where to look
If a situation arises when the payer, for certain reasons, does not have a rent payment in hand, you should follow these instructions:
- You can find out the amount of charges for utility services by contacting the Housing Office. All you have to do is go to their office and give the address of the apartment. After this, a company employee will find the information the applicant is interested in in the database and provide him with all the displayed data.
- Everyone’s favorite Internet will also allow you to get information about rent payments. By logging into, for example, one of the official websites of large financial institutions), you can find the “payment” tab. By entering your number in the personal account field on the page that opens, you can see the amount of debt on the screen.
- But information about the amount of debt for electricity can be easily found in Energosbyt itself. To do this, you just need to call the company’s technical support and request the information you need. Other ways to obtain information from them are as follows: visiting a branch in person or sending a corresponding request via SMS.
- Information about debts for telephony services can be obtained directly from the websites of the telephone companies themselves. But for this you will need to first register and log in to the portal.
If there is a debt for a particular service, you should try to cover it as soon as possible, especially since now this can be done in many ways: through terminals, online, and the old fashioned way at the post office/bank, etc., but in the future you can rest assured that the service will not be disconnected on any day or penalties will not be charged
If you want to have in your hands the payment slip itself, where the entire list of services provided, tariffs and charges for them are indicated, you can print it out by logging into the city services page. To do this, on the home page you need to find the “Apartment, Housing and Utilities” tab and click on it. In the window that opens, click on “Receive and pay a single payment document (UPD)”.
To receive a receipt with your data, you must first enter in a new page:
- payer code (its value can be found in the old payment slip);
- type of document: debt or ordinary;
- due date.
As a result, an exact copy of the previously sent payment will appear, which you can view online or send to yourself by email. This is also one of the places where you can print your payment slip.

Check account
Recently, a state information system for housing and communal services began to exist. Thanks to it, users can obtain information about the accuracy of the accruals made.
In addition, it is possible to pay rent without leaving your home, directly on the website; adjust payments and even leave a complaint about the work of the management company.
Despite the wide range of services provided on the site, the ability to check the accruals made by the management company is still very popular here. To do this, just enter your data in certain fields, including the area of the apartment, the number of residents, and the name of the service provider. Then, after going through a few simple steps, you can get the final cost of the rent.
When using this system, you do not need to enter the tariffs established in the region; they are already included in the system. Having received the total amount of the utility bill, you can quickly compare it with the amount in the sent receipt. If the results in the payment are much larger, you should make your own check about the legality of certain charges.
However, thanks to changes made to payment receipts in 2012, the need for a thorough study of charges has disappeared. Now the bills contain complete information about the services provided, their cost separately and the total amount of the rent. Such innovations make it possible to reduce the incidence of fraud on the part of management companies and their employees individually.
If previously non-existent numbers could have been entered into the receipt, then in 2021 the payer clearly sees what he is paying for and how much he is paying. However, even in such “modern” payments, inaccuracies may arise, for example, due to the fault of technology or as a result of calculation errors by management company employees.
Therefore, before making payment for housing and communal services, you need to go through the information specified in the payment invoice. In some column the values are too high - a reason to contact the utility company for clarification.
If the error is recognized, the management company will recalculate and, as a result, you will have to pay less next month
How to minimize the risk of losing a payment receipt
- Try to pay for services non-cash: through self-service devices or online banking. In this case, it is easiest to find the payment and print the receipt.
- Please check your payment details carefully. Yes, bank tellers may know the details of the payee, especially if this payment is common, but they cannot guarantee the correctness of the details (paradox!). Any bank will tell you: knowing the details is the responsibility of the payer. The best option is to request the details directly from the payee’s office or print them from the website.
- Keep your receipts. It sounds unpleasant, but still try to keep receipts in one place for at least six months... At least the most “heavy” and important ones: about payments for housing and communal services, for loans, fines, etc.

About the possibility of restoring a lost Sberbank check
All banking transactions are carried out non-cash, which means that information about the payer and recipient is stored in the credit institution in electronic form.
The structure of Sberbank is designed in such a way that branch employees are engaged in sales and transactions and will not understand payments made previously. In this case, you should contact the office employees with a request to restore the check. The most competent in this matter are consultants and the head of the department. They will not be able to make a copy of the receipt in front of the client, but they will fill out the application correctly, in accordance with the circumstances of the transaction. This will help you quickly identify the payment and find it in the total number of transactions.
All transactions are processed by the Customer Operations Support Center (CSCO), such organizations are located in large cities and serve several regional banks; it is to the CSCO that a request to restore a receipt from a Sberbank branch is sent. Structural divisions for working with individuals do not store any documents.
The procedure for searching for missing money through an application is relevant when making a payment in cash, when the payment is made using a card, the client can independently print a receipt and check the correctness of the specified details.
Important! If you need to restore a receipt, you need to remember as accurately as possible the date and time of the transaction, the amount, and the place of payment (branch or ATM number). Without this data, it is difficult to find information about the transaction, regardless of whether cash or a card was used in the transaction.
You can print out a receipt yourself instantly; Sberbank will provide a response to your application within 10 business days.
